About HypoActive
The formation of HypoActive was borne from the need to provide information, ongoing support and inspiration to others participating in exercise challenges while learning from other diabetics in the process.
Despite the obvious benefits from regular exercise, studies have shown that type 1 diabetics often experience poorer health outcomes from introducing exercise into their routine. This is usually due to the added complexity required to manage glucose levels from the effects of exercise. For these reasons, many type 1 diabetics are wary of exercise.
But with up to date information on management techniques, attention to detail and a commitment to better health outcomes, exercise can comfortably form part of everyday life for a type 1 diabetics. Type 1 diabetics can win Olympic Gold, or even scale Everest. HypoActive has a strong commitment to assist in empowering all type 1 diabetics, and each year we provide opportunities for type 1 diabetics to participate in a number of select endurance challenges, lobby for more research into the effects of exercise on type 1 diabetes, and encourage others to exercise more often. The group is based in Melbourne with key links throughout Australia and New Zealand, providing on-line support through this website, www.hypoactive.org
