2012 MS MegaSwim with HypoActive

Event Date:
24 Feb 2012 - 25 Feb 2012

This is where type 1's get to pretend to be fish. The HA team will be smashing it out at the Fitzroy pool in a 24 hour non-stop swimming relay. If you can swim 200m in one go, then why not come along and lend a fin?

The 2012 event will be held from Friday Feb 24th until Saturday Feb 25th at the Fitzroy pool.

We are now accepting Expressions of Interest for the 2012 team (our sixth year)!  Come join us - pop on your pump smugglers and register here:

2010 MS MegaSwim with HypoActive achievements and stats, by Team Captain Laura:

First of all congratulations to all who were part of HypoActive's first ever (and probably the world's first ever) MS MegaSwim team comprised entirely of swimmers with Type 1 diabetes! Many thanks to our awesome support crew with Type 1 also - Asha and Gorgeous Annie (and all the swimmers who helped out in between laps)

HypoActive raised a very impressive $4,173 and covered 57Kms (that's 11,400 laps for those playing at home). The Fitzroy swim raised over a quarter of a million dollars by 6pm on Sunday for the MS Society's Go for Gold scholarship program!

While this year's team didn't quite churn out the same number of kilometres as last year, it's important to remember that in order to keep our team all type 1's we only had 12 swimmers (instead of 15) - and most of the team didn't grow up going to swimming club! A truly amazing effort by you all!

Our entirely unofficial awards are as follows:

Speediest Swimmer: Paul who averaged an impressive 2.56kph
Highest Fundraising: Kim with an amazing total of $1,230
Neatest handwriting: Asha
Most improved: Although she wasn't able to be a part of the team last year, Cheryl returned to the pool on Firday night and absolutely smashed her 2008 effort where she was forced to retire after 200m. She clocked up 2.6Kms this year with her longest leg being 800m. We're very much looking forward to seeing what she comes up with in 2011 - perhaps joining the overnight crew for some lazy 2km legs???
Most consistent BGL: Without the aid of a CGMS - Meg who entered the water 8.4, swam 600m and was 8.3 when she got out! With the assistance of a Navigator (CGMS): Monique who managed to enter and exit the pool on 2 occasions with the exact same BGL!!
Biggest BGL drop: Dan who started at 19.4 and was 7.7 500m later...
