AcT1vate: a weekend for Type Ones on Exercise and Diabetes

Event Date:
12 Feb 2010 - 14 Feb 2010

DA-Vic and HypoActive bring you AcT1vate! An interactive weekend workshop to give you the confidence in making exercise part of your daily routine.

This weekend for people with type one diabetes in Victoria was inspired by the very successful US-based Diabetes Training Camps, and the Perth based Diabetes Fits weekend.

The weekend is designed for you to come away with a variety of tools that will enable you to:

  • enhance your exercise experiences
  • prepare for more challenging events
  • have a greater understanding on how exercise impacts your diabetes management
  • realise the benefits exercise has to your overall health and diabetes management!

The weekend will cover:

  • Running, swimming and cycling sessions run by experienced coaches
  • Nutrition and carbohydrate counting
  • Physiology of exercise and diabetes
  • Practical tips and tools for approaching a wide variety of activities
  • Time with a trainer to make a personalised exercise program
  • Insulin pumps
  • Inspirational speakers who have type 1 diabetes and are excelling at their chosen sport

Exercise sessions will be organised according to fitness level and experience. That means that anyone who has bought a bike for the first time won’t be in a training group with anyone who’s done the Tour de France!

I think i have missed the

I think i have missed the golden chance of being a part of such a great event. It is really a worth appreciating step that will definitely help to boost up the awareness regarding this critical issue. It must be continued in future to have major impact in society and easing the victims of this terrible disease.
