We were shocked to learn that regular HypoActive event participant Paul Lynch was hit by a car while riding down Beach Road in Melbourne on Monday, June 28. He landed head first and destroyed his Lance Armstrong special edition Giro helmet that he was wearing for the very first time. It no doubt saved his life. Unfortunately the trauma has resulted in some short term amnesia which will require ongoing monitoring for the time being.
Paul has ridden in six of the past eight Murray to Moyne cycle relays with HypoActive, as well as swimming in the MS Mega Swim team and running in the Run for the Kids team. He was also a mentor for the Diabetes Australia - Victoria 'transition' camp, for young adults aged 18-25, on the Great Victorian Bike Ride.
Although rocky for the first few days, he believes his diabetes management has been perfect in the past 48 hours. Not an easy feat!
We were able to visit him while he was recovering at the Alfred Hospital, and dropped off the latest edition of Australian Cyclist, which features an article on HypoActive. Paul was very happy to note that he featured in one of the main photos in the article.
From everyone at HypoActive, we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.
