MS MegaSwim 2009

Event Date: 13 Feb 2009 – 14 Feb 2009

The 2009 HypoActive MegaSwim team are now training for the event. The team of 15 will take turns to swim non-stop for 24 hours to raise money for the MS society. The event kicks off at 6pm on Friday Feb 13 and supporters are definitely welcome so if your free that night pop into the Fitzroy pool and cheer us on. We'll be there until 6pm to following day!

We also need some non-swimmers to help us count laps, hold jelly beans for swimmers, mind towels etc. If you've never participated in a HypoActive event before this is a great way to meet some people and see what we're all about. Please contact Chelle if you are interested in helping out.

If you would like to support the teams fundraising efforts please head to our team website and follow the links to donate!

Woody’s Murray to Moyne

Event Date: 4 April 2009 – 5 April 2009

The HypoActive and Diabetes Victoria crews are working on planning and logistics for the Murray to Moyne this year. This will be HypoActive's 7th attempt at the 520km relay challenge, to be completed in 24 hours.

We always try to feature type 1 riders on our team who have not completed this challenge with us before. If you happen to be one of those people who looks at this event every year and thinks, 'hmmm, that sounds like fun!', then now is the time to send us an email and sign up! You will be joined by a bunch of friendly and laid back folk with type one who ride, sometimes a lot, sometimes not much. It doesn't matter if you have limited ride experience or fitness: the key ingredient is the desire to challenge yourself!

If you have already signed up, we'll be organising more information to send through shortly. For now though, try to get out on your bike, familiarise yourself with it, and aim to ride at a steady pace for up to an hour. If you already do this, then keep it up and extend the timeframe!

If you wish to be involved as either rider or support crew, please contact the team captain Monique

Run 4 Kids

Event Date: 5 April 2009

The Run for the Kids is a fun run that raises money for the Royal Childrens Hospital (a location many of us know all too well!!) as part of the Good Friday Appeal.

You can choose to complete either the full 14.1Kms or a more relaxed 5.7Kms. The 14.1km course passes through the Domain Tunnel, along the usually Westgate Freeway, then up over the Bolte Bridge and along the waterfront at Docklands. The 5.7km course takes in some of Melbourne’s famous landmarks such as the Yarra River, Birrarung Marr, Federation Square, and the Botanic Gardens. It is the same weekend as Murray to Moyne so if your not part of Murray to Moyne it would be great to have you at this event. Please contact the team captain Nicca for more information.

Reports on Events

TAUPO (NZ) Cycle Challenge

Team Jabbers participated in the Taupo Cycle Challenge in late November for their fifth year in 2008. All team members completed 80km each in relay teams and this year the team was also part of a greater NovoNordisk cycling team that combined, was made up of type 1 diabetics, nurse educators, doctors and NovoNordisk staff. Jason felt “It was very motivating to chat to fellow cyclists during my ride and see people out there achieving their goals for a multitude of different reasons.” Read more about the day on the HypoActive Website.
