Hi all,
With winter here the motivation to get out and active is hard to come by (as is sunlight in which to do it!) - but cold weather and rain means that snow is falling up in the hills! It's also an excellent excuse for a warming coffee and hearty breakfast after an early morning run, or spending some time cross training in the gym.
This month we welcome some new faces on the HypoActive committee as we welcome Johnty as our official jelly bean counter (occasionally referred to as treasurer) and Lyndal steps in to the Communication Officers role while Jana has her hands full with other impending commitments
For those of you who haven't heard the latest from America, our very own President Monique was involved in a rather unfortunate (although I'm quite sure spectacular) accident recently leaving her with 3 fractured vertebrae and a dislocated shoulder - this is why I don't like cycling people! Well that and the lycra and not wearing underwear thing....
It sounds like she is on the mend though - you can keep up to date with her progress and catch up with what happened before the crash at www.moniquehanley.com - or send her more get well messages/ stop lazing around messages at monique@hypoactive.org
We're currently looking for HypoActivites who can ski or snowboard, would like to learn, or just want to further refine their snowman making skills...
A trip to the snow, most likely Mt Buller or Falls Creek, is on the cards for this winter providing there are sufficient numbers interested!
If you're up for some snow time contact Laura (laura@hypoactive.org) and let us know if you'd like to do a day or a weekend trip, need lessons or are happy to just play in the snow...
HypoActive are looking to add a few day activities to our calendar - so now's your chance to let us know if there's something you've always wanted to do but need help organising or some extra fun friends to tag along!
Suggestions so far include:
If you have any requests for activities or want to let us know what you'd like to do first contact Laura (laura@hypoactive.org)
Due to the overwhelming popularity of our current swanky black and silver Insulin Injected Engine T's we need to get some more t-shirts printed... but as we have been running with the same T design for a few years now, we thought a make over could be in order.
So if you have a creative flair let us know your ideas! You can incorporate the insulin injected engine logo or come up with something completely different.
Design queries and submissions can be sent to Laura (laura@hypoactive.org) - or you can email in and tell us that the current design is just way too funky to change and put in your request for next seasons colours (did someone say red is the new black?)
The winning design will be unveiled at this year's Walk to Cure Diabetes in October.
That's all for now folks - if you have any ideas for additional events, questions about diabetes and exercise that you can't get a straight (or realistic!) answer to, be sure to let us know!
Cheers,
Laura
