Diabetes by Request, Royal Melb Hospital, November 15 (sorry for late notice)
Diabetes Australia - Victoria will host an information session for Type 1 diabetes at the Royal Melbourne Hospital on November 15th. Learn about the latest on diabetes technology including continuous glucose monitors, making the most of your health professional appointments, and how to race across America in five and a half days.

Oceania Track Champs, November 13-16
Keep an eye out for two of the fastest Type 1 diabetic cyclists on the planet who will be racing this weekend in Adelaide for the Oceania Track Championships: 17 year old James Glasspool racing in his home town, and Damian Wiseman from Auckland New Zealand. Best of luck fellas!

§ James Glasspool scorched the Superdome Velodrome in Adelaide, South Australia Thursday night to claim the Under 19 1000m title at the 2008-9 Oceania Track Championships. The performance officially estabished Glasspool as the fastest type one diabetic rider in the world, and ranks him as a rider to watch should he make selection for the Australian team for the Junior World Track Championships in 2009.
§ New Zealand rider Damian Wiseman also raced, finishing fifth in the elite men for the 1000m time trial. Wiseman also qualified in the sprint round in a time of 11.28.
Melbourne Bicycle Film Festival, Nov 19-23
Keep an eye out for the movie, The Way Bobby Sees It. Bobby McMullen is a 43yr old blind mountain biker. He has also been a type one diabetic since the age of twelve. His film will be shown in Melbourne on Saturday November 22nd. 'Bobby is on constant life support. But not by some huge machine that pumps oxygen to his brain. Bobby's life support is his bicycle.'

Taupo (NZ) Cycle Challenge:
New Zealand’s premier cycling event will be held on 29 November 2008. Set in the picturesque Central North Island, the event offers riders the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of individual and team challenges based around a 160 km circumnavigation of Lake Taupo. Team Jabbers is a team of Type 1’s who have been competing in the Taupo Cycle Challenge since 2004 so this is the fifth year. Each year the Taupo Cycle Challenge has coincided with the Diabetes Awareness Week in New Zealand and in conjunction with NovoNordisk we’ve each year helped raise the profile of Diabetes Awareness through competing. Entry for the team for 2008 is closed but all those interested should contact Lorisa (lperebooms@hotmail.com).
MS Megaswim:
It’s on Feb 13-14 2009, and is a 24 hour relay swim event. We have training programs available and there will be regular group training sessions in the coming months for anyone who has forgotten how to swim! The team is a mix of abilities, last year’s swimmers ranged from being able to swim 200m at a time to completing 1.5km stints. If you raise more than $50 you will receive a free HA swim accessory. Murray to Moyne - Time will fly once Christmas passes by, so get thinking about the Murray to Moyne if your interested and start some training.
