Participants Required for Study on Barriers to Optimal Diabetes Care

The Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) is conducting a study into the factors that prevent effective diabetes management.

This is a major study currently run by the Centre for Eye Research Australia, along with the Eye and Ear Hospital, The University of Melbourne, and DAV.  The study is a government funded Australian project.

Blood glucose and blood pressure control are important for effective diabetes management and have been shown to reduce the risk of diabetic retinopathy and other diabetes-related complications. Despite this, many patients at a high risk of developing the disease are not adequately managing their condition. Researchers hope to help medical professionals to better support and educate patients about their treatment needs.

CERA is seeking to recruit 2,000 people with type one or type two diabetes who are over 18 to participate in the study. Participants will undergo an interview, a blood test and an eye exam at the Eye and Ear Hospital in East Melbourne.
