Friday June 25th saw the first ever (that we know of) all Type 1 Pole Dancing Duo to compete in an amateur competition with HypoActive's very own Lyndal and Laura taking part in the Pole Diva's Unleashed night.
The traditional HypoActive lycra was swapped for fringing, sequins, glitter, jelly bean filled platform shoes (just in case of hypo's) and false eyelashes for their time on stage, the girls pulling off their best performance of their self choreographed routine to date! Although they didn't take out the winner's pink sashes the pair were complimented on their synchronicity and costumes.

After participating in class every week, both girls have their diabetes & pole dance routine down pat, however the additional adrenalin & nerves from performing in front of a room full of people posed a few extra challenges! Following the adage 'Pumps and Poles are not good friends' (personally the idea of a pump bungee while spinning round a pole is not appealing!) disconnecting for pole dancing was the choice for the night.
Despite initial astonishment in getting through to take part in the finals, the time on stage was thoroughly enjoyable. The biggest challenges in the lead up to the competition weren't diabetes related, rather their differing levels of experience, coordinating practice times and finding a booking for a spray tan in time to not be still slippery and yet still be brown/orange come show time... Highlights of the evening included Lyndal not falling off the stage and Laura remembering the entire routine for the first time ever!
